| Strategy #1 |
Check the catalogs of junior colleges in your
area to see if they offer any of the remaining courses. Most junior colleges charge less
than $10 per unit and often provide their courses through the World Wide Web. |
| Strategy #2 |
Purchase the official
curriculum directly from Microsoft Press and self-study. To purchase Microsoft press
self-study kits access the Microsoft Press web site at mspress.Microsoft.com. Classroom
attendance is not required to pass a certification exam. Knowledge is the only requirement
for passing a certification exam. Self-study books are an inexpensive alternative to
lecture classes for the well motivated student. These books can also be purchased through
various internet discount bookstores such as Amazon.com. |
| Strategy #3 |
Purchase a self-study curriculum
that is not an "Official Microsoft Curriculum" from publishers such as Sybex or
Course Technology. These publishers often include the "Microsoft Certified
Professional Approved Study Guide" Logo on their textbooks. These study guides are
usually less expensive than the Microsoft official curriculum and are an excellent supplemental
study guide. However, we recommend using the Microsoft official curriculum as a more
direct approach to passing certification exams. |
| Strategy #3 |
Attend San Jose State University Continuing
Education courses. (SJSU). Although state university tuition is higher than junior
colleges the costs should be lower than University of California tuition. |
| Strategy #4 |
Attend University of California at Santa Cruz (UCSC) extensions
in Santa Clara. UCSC offers many of the courses not offered at De Anza. For more
information about UCSC extension courses see their web site at www.ucsc-extension.edu. These
classes cost about $1,000 each. Contact UCSC for exact pricing and availability. |
| Strategy #5 |
Many private training companies throughout the
country offer the full suite of Microsoft certification courses. However, these private
training companies are the most expensive route for attaining certification. Below are a
few training centers in the San Francisco Bay Area:
