Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ

Q... Can I attend both CIS 171A (Windows 200 Professional) and CIS 171B (Windows 2000 Server) at the same time?

A... We do not recommend taking both courses at the same time as CIS 171A is the prerequisite to CIS 171B. However the following exceptions can apply:  Students who are currently working in the networking field on a daily basis and students who are currently working 20 hours or less in their jobs may take these courses concurrently (at their own risk). Students who take both courses at the same time should be prepared to study very hard to pass both courses. If you are new to computers, do not take both courses concurrently unless you are not currently working.

Q... What is the quickest time students can complete all of De Anza's MCSE courses?

A... For users who are new to computers, completing De Anza's  MCSE courses could take up to seven quarters (about 18 months) if they complete one course per quarter. We recommend students complete CIS 156A first.  Then, if students find this relatively easy to complete, they could sign up for two or more courses in subsequent quarters.  This could speed the MCSE course path to a  nine month period.

Q... Will my Windows NT 4.0 certification become obsolete with the release of Windows Windows 2000?

A... Eventually, all certifications become obsolete. However, there will be a demand for those who know Windows NT 4.0 for years after release of the new version. In the technology field, continuous education is a lifelong commitment. Employers will demand that Windows professionals know both Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000.  We recommend starting with Windows NT 4.0 courses before attempting the more challenging Windows 2000 series.
